New Parish Clerk Frithelstock Parish Council has a new Parish Clerk. Pat Blosse would like to ease himself towards retirement so he has handed over the reins to Zena Tett. Zena started on 1st July and Pat will step down from 31st July 2017 following a handover period. Zena is already Parish Clerk at Merton and comes with a host of secretarial and office management experience. She is also taking over as Clerk to Monkleigh Parish Council. We all wish her well and look forward to seeing her at future Parish Council meetings. The council's email address remains unchanged - frithelstockpc@gmail.com. |

Seeking nominees
for co-option to the Parish Council As there were only 5 nominees for the new Parish Council and there are 7 places to fill on Frithelstock Parish Council, the 5 nominees are all elected uncontested. These are: Mike Baker, Andrew Heard, Roger Hunkin, Mackie Poole and Mike Stokes - all of whom are also currently parish councillors. It will be the responsibility of the new Parish Council to appoint 2 co-optees to the Council. By law this should be done within 35 days of the announcement of election results and the Elections Officer has informed me that this time limit will expire on 26th June 2015. If the Parish Council fails to appoint 2 co-optees the Elections Officer will call another election to fill any vacant positions. Although all parishioners had the opportunity to nominate themselves for the Parish Council recently there are hopefully at least 2 more people in the parish with an interest in parish affairs who would like the opportunity to contribute to what is widely considered to be an active and resourceful parish. There are a number of useful guides about becoming a Parish Councillor on the website but if you would like more information please contact the Parish Clerk, Patrick Blosse, on 01805 624832 or by email at frithelstockpc@gmail.com, or talk to any of the 5 nominees named above. The first meeting of the new Parish Council will be held in the Village Hall at 7:30pm on Tuesday 19th May 2015 and a formal notice and agenda for that meeting will be posted on or about 12th May. |

The PCC is looking
for a grant(s) The PCC has been seeking a grant to purchase some flashing 30mph road signs. The Trustees of the Balsdon Trust have sent an e-mail to confirm that our grant application was considered on 22 January but they decided against the scheme on the grounds that road signs do 'not fit comfortably within the terms of the Trust Deed, which limits what the Trustees can and cannot do with the Trust's funds.' If anyone knows of any other possible sources of funds please let the PPC's clerk, Patrick Blosse, know on frithelstockpc@gmail.com |

Proposed
Parliamentary Constituencies in West Country In September the Boundary Commission for England announced that it plans to reduce the total number of constituencies in England from 533 to 502. Most constituencies will have boundary changes; in the initial proposals just 77 of the existing constituencies are unchanged. The proposals are designed to ensure that each constituency contains a similar number of registered electors. With the exception of the Isle of Wight – all constituencies will contain between 72,810 and 80,473 electors. There are two maps available to download and print. One shows all the proposed Parliamentary Constituencies in the West Country - and the other that of the new Bideford and Bude which will replace the present Torridge & West Devon. The changes are not likely to take effect until after October 2013. See timetable and other details. |

Best Kept Village
Competition As some may have heard, the villages of Frithelstock and Frithelstock Stone have won this year's competition in the 'Small Village' category. This covers the whole of Devon. There is to be a presentation by the CPRE / MVF at a suitable village event. The organisers would prefer as many as possible to attend so at the Parish Council's request, so there is to be a meeting to plan such event. Please spare time to take part: THURSDAY 22 September at the Village Hall starting at 7.45pm. |
