War Memorial
Those who have attended a wreath laying ceremony at the Frithelstock War Memorial will be well aware that the process can be less than dignified because of the need to climb a one metre high bank to gain access. Thankfully, that is a thing of the past because the construction of the new access steps is now complete.
It is particularly pleasing that the contractor who carried out the work is a resident of Frithelstock Stone. He was ably assisted at times by the Parish Council Chairman, Mr Mackie Poole and the Vice Chairman, Mr Roger 'Chunkie' Hunkin who between them excavated the site and then lifted the heavy granite steps in to place, using their heavy equipment. Thanks are expressed to them for their efforts in this respect.
The Parish Council is delighted to report that the cost of the works has been fully covered by generous grants from The War Memorials Trust and the Devon County Council's 'Devon Remembers' initiative.
In seeking and obtaining the grant from the latter, it is recognised with thanks the support given by the local Royal British Legion (Mr S Adams) and our local Devon County Councillor (Cllr Gaston Dezart).
Our War Memorial can now be viewed on line at www.warmemorialsonline.org.uk (Then search for 'Frithelstock' on the Home Page). These photographs are also posted here on the Frithelstock website.
