J. Hewit & Sons Ltd is a well-established family run tannery, now in its sixth generation. The Company specialises in the production of a range of bookbinding leather for high-end craft and limited edition bindings. In the tannery, we use a combination of specialised vegetable tannins and the latest chemicals, combined with age-old traditional techniques when producing our leathers. This allows us to ensure that we meet the highest standards in our archival quality bookbinding leathers and also meet the exacting demands of our customers throughout the world when supplying our calf and goatskins. As well as holding stocks of our leathers in a wide range of standard finishes and colours we regularly meet the challenges of making leathers to customers particular requirements.
In addition to our bookbinding leathers we also supply a wide range of bookbinding tools and equipment, along with an extensive range of bookcloths and specialist conservation and marbled papers to meet the needs of bookbinders and publishers.
For over 17 years, we have been publishing a bi-annual newsletter, 'Skin Deep' which can be viewed and downloaded from our web site.
